UPCYCLED FURNITURE
Concept Design for Upcycled Furniture in a Public Gathering Space
The approach for the design of the furniture is based on creating conceptual obelisks, as an ode to Obelisk structures in main Public Squares as placed historically to mark the importance and centrality of such spaces.
The fictional trunk obelisks are traced by the outlines of furniture, positioned as the weight holding structures of what is then defined a functional area used as table or seating. Tracing the outlines adds to preserving lightweight and delicacy of the furniture.
Colors are chosen to convey playfulness and are complementary to each other, in order to create contrast and distinction.
